National Eye Health Week (NEHW) starts on Monday 17 September 2012 and aims to raise awareness of the importance of good eye health and encourage everyone to take better care of their eyes and have regular sight tests.
A report of a red or orange flare over the River Medina led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat being launched yesterday evening. Solent Coastguards had been told that what look like a flare was seen in the vicinity of The Folly, north of East Cowes.

Discarded camp chairs from the Isle of Wight Festival have been used to raise hundreds of pounds to help disadvantaged and challenging young islanders. Isle of Wight charity Challenge & Adventure rented out the salvaged seats to the crowds at Isle of Wight Radio & Robin Hill’s Cinema Under The Stars, raising £300 over the weekend.
Cowes lifeboat was launched Saturday Evening (1st September) to go to the aid of a yacht that had alerted Solent Coastguards it had gone aground. The 35 foot Pure Magic, with two couples on board, had come to grief on Gurnard Ledge in a Force 4 south-westerly, while on passage from Hamble to Beaulieu.
