East Cowes on the Isle of Wight has a proud industrial heritage. August 22nd 2012 was the 60th anniversary of the first flight of the Saunders Roe Princess – the largest all metal flying boat ever constructed which was built in the town.

This video shows the commemoration ceremony which took place on East Cowes waterfront with an address by HM Lord Lieutenant Major General Martin White CB CBE JP, and the Mayor, Mrs Jane Rann followed by a seaplane flypast and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Raymond L Wheeler.
